Ceilidh bands uncovered

Special occasions are often a time when several worlds collide: your family, friends and work colleagues are thrown together in one place to join the celebrations.

Whether it’s a wedding or a birthday party, it can be tricky to think of entertainment to please both your drinking buddies, your boss and your grandma.

But hiring a ceilidh band could be the answer you’re looking for.

Ceilidh bands, or barn dance bands as they are sometimes known, provide a great evening of entertainment for all ages and are suitable for everyone regardless of their dance experience.

There isn’t much difference between a ceilidh and a barn dance: the former is more associated with Scotland and Ireland while barn dances have a more English heritage.

The format is much the same for each though. When booking a ceilidh band you’ll get a group of musicians and a caller whose job is to get everyone up on the dance floor, teach them the steps and call out instructions to keep them in line.

But don’t worry if you have two left feet – they might be professionals on stage, but the madness and mayhem which happens among the guests is all part of the fun.

Many of our ceilidh bands are based in the Midlands which makes them ideally placed to travel across the country for your special event.

One of our most popular groups in Govannen, who not only raise the roof with their lively reels and jigs, but can also perform a selection of more mellow tunes for when your guests need to take a break.

If you want an American twist to your event, our Leicester Ceilidh Band can adapt their set to the style of an American Ho-Down.

The most important thing to remember about booking a ceilidh band is the emphasis on fun. There's something about the style of music and the encouragement of a talented caller that makes even the most reluctant dancers want to give it a go.

So if you're looking to host an event with a party atmosphere but don't think a traditional party band is right for your guests, why not give a barn dance party a go? You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it!
