Perfect for Weddings or Functions
Emmy began at the age of 16 to play as both background music at receptions and during wedding ceremonies. This means she has developed a sensitive understanding for the kind of playing needed to compliment different kinds of special events. She can be relied upon to lift an atmosphere with the warm, rich sound of the harp as she believes above all else music should make you want to dance.
World Music Influences
Emmy is inspired by so many different styles of music that she has spent the past year developing a unique energy in her playing that is unusual in someone who is also a classically trained harpist. She believes that one of the most valuable experiences that we can gain from being open to music from all over the world is a chance to learn about other people and so broaden our understanding of life in both its struggles and joys. She is experimenting by mixing the timelessly beautiful sound of the concert harp with different world music influences.
She is sustained by exploring music by new artists in order to enrich and expand her interpretation of the harp and its capabilities. She is mainly inspired by the griot musicians from Mali such as Toumani Diabate, Ali Farka Toure, Salif Keita and Afel Bocoum. She has recently discovered Group Doueh and Group Inerane who play raw and unfiltered Sahawi music from the Western Sahara, and is learning about how to express the lively rhythms present in latin, blues and afro funk music.
