Adam Ross of Funk Soul Brother
Soul music originated in America, having elements of rhythm and blues and gospel. It was popular in the 1950’s and 60’s, with artists such as Ray Charles, Al Green and Aretha Franklin having big hits. It was also at the centre of films The Blues Brothers and The Commitments. Soul often crossed over into funk, a more up tempo dance music. Famous funk acts include James Brown, Curtis Mayfield and Roy Ayers. Motown was a more pop-oriented style with Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The Jackson 5 all finding fame with the Motown record label. Some disco music can also be included in these bands typical setlists.
This type of music is perfect party music, great to dance to, and popular with all ages. The bands usually consist of a singer, guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, and often a brass section and percussion.
