Why booking a wind ensemble could work for you

Published: 30 Sep 14, 02:21pm  |  Author: DG Music

Wind ensembles may not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering live music for your event, but with such a variety of instruments to choose from it might be just what you’re looking for.

With origins in the 18th century and an early history made up of military and royal events, it is often assumed that a wind ensemble is tailored to classical music and little else.

But the instruments which make up these groups – most commonly the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and saxophone – are so versatile that musicians are continually experimenting with different styles of music.

DG Music has welcomed three new wind ensembles during the last few weeks and each offers something different. They join our wide selection of wind ensembles for hire which includes everything from duos to quintets.

Our Clarinet and Harp Duo is one of the recent additions.

Harpist Soraya and clarinetist Chris have travelled extensively together and as individual musicians, honing their skills to create a beautifully blended sound. They gave performed widely at weddings – offering a great alternative to the traditional string quartet – as well as giving recitals.

Their wide-ranging repertoire echoes the point that a wind ensemble can be suited to any occasion. For your big day they can perform classics like Mendelssohn’s Wedding March, the Bridal March by Wagner and popular pieces like Air on a G String by Bach.

But for something more contemporary, they are equally skilled at show tunes by Andrew Lloyd Webber and classic hits like Unchained Melody.

Argenta Flutes is a London-based trio which offers an alternative slant on the wind ensemble.

Their musical talents lie within the genres of classical, jazz and folk pieces but the group is happy to learn special requests to meet the needs of your event.

All of these flute players are classically trained and have performed at weddings, corporate events and full classical recitals.

The exceptionally talented Regent Wind Ensemble also joined DG Music this month and has one of the widest repertoires of all our ensembles.

Featuring the clarinet, oboe and bassoon this group can perfect anything from Beethoven to the Beach Boys.

They’ve even got Christmas covered with a selection of festive tunes and perform a beautiful ‘Last Night of the Proms’s inspired set to promote that British spirit.
