The Houndogs prepare for The MoonWalk London

Published: 8 Apr 14, 10:04am  |  Author: DG Music

Thousands of power-walkers will be rocking out to the sound of The Houndogs at their biggest ever gig - The MoonWalk London.

The Houndogs are a three-piece rockabilly band and one of our most popular acts. They are delighted to have been chosen to perform at the pre-party for the charity event which is being held at Clapham Common for the first time under a rockabilly theme. With a sell-out audience of 17,000 male and female fundraisers it will be the biggest gig the band has played to date and they can’t wait to hit the stage.

Drummer David Wilson said: “We’re looking forward to using the energy of such a big crowd to really boost our performance.

“No two gigs are ever the same so we’ll see what the audience wants and go from there.”

The MoonWalk is a charity event organised by Walk the Walk which takes place in London each year.  Thousands of power walkers take to the streets at midnight wearing specially customised bras to tackle a 13 or 26-mile walk to help fund research into breast cancer and improve the lives of people living with cancer now.

The MoonWalk London is now in its 17th year. The MoonWalk Scotland followed in 2006, The MoonWalk Iceland in 2011 and The MoonWalk New York City launched last year.

Since the first ever event, the walks have raised more than £91 million.

The Houndogs are reluctant to comment on whether the sight of 17,000 women (and a few brave men) in their bras will be a distraction or an encouragement, and even more reluctant to say whether they will be joining in with the dress code, but they had no such hesitation when agreeing to take part.

They said: “It’s always great to be able to support charity events where we can. Performing to such a big audience at The MoonWalk is a great opportunity for us. We can’t wait to rock out on that stage.”

The band are confident their energetic performance will be the perfect way for the participants to warm up as they prepare to fulfil the event’s aim – to raise money, raise awareness, get fit and have fun.

The Tootsie Rollers are also set to perform, promising to bring their own touch of glamour to the rock n roll party.

It might be too late to take part in the walk but volunteers are still needed to make sure everyone has fun and the event runs smoothly.

It takes place on Saturday, May 10 in London. To find out how you can get involved visit www.walkthewalk.org/volunteer
