Gig Of The Month: Quadrophenia Night
Published: 27 Sep 12, 12:29pm | Author: DG Music
On Friday 28th September, The Donkey Bar in Leicester will be reliving the sights and sounds of the cult film Quadrophenia. With live bands, DJ’s and memorabilia, the bar will be transformed into the home of the Mod’s blasting to The Who, The Small Faces, The Jam and more of our 60’s favourites!
This is the second Quadrophenia night to be hosted at The Donkey Bar, and is set to be even bigger than the last!
Quadrophenia Night
The idea for a tribute night came from Drew Stansell, saxophonist for The Specials and The Paradimes. He contacted local band The Atlantics, who then learnt a new set dedicated to the film's soundtrack, got a Paul Weller Style support act involved, and then got ready to show Leicester what it was to party like a Mod! The night was met with huge success, and the crowds showed up in their sharpest suits and ties to dance to the sounds of the 60s.
For Those Of Us Who Aren’t Acquainted…
Quadrophenia is a British film, loosely based around The Who’s sixth album of the same name. It follows protagonist Jimmy through the clash of the ‘Mods’ and ‘Rockers’ and his own emotional and psychological journey. The film stands as an iconic representation of teenage angst and ideals, and with its tones of realism, powerful imagery, and incredible soundtrack, Quadrophenia has placed itself as a timeless film of cultural significance.
Below is a clip from the film…
The Atlantics
DG Music are excited that one of our top bands is contributing to such a fantastic night. The Atlantics are the perfect group for such an occasion, playing hit songs like Night Train, Louie Louie and of course My Generation, with energy and charisma. For all of you of haven’t seen The Atlantics play live yet, this is a great opportunity!
Drew Stansall
Having recently come off tour with The Specials, playing around the world at the UK’s biggest festivals, Drew is a saxophonist who must be seen! With a real passion for the film and its music, he will also be playing a Ska Soul Mod DJ set at the end of the night.
And More...
Throughout the evening the film will be projected onto a big screen, and guests are encouraged to dress up! See pictures below for inspiration…
